TEEN (various parts of Britain in 19th century)
Sorrow, grief
Who would have thought that 'teen' meant sorrow or grief? Here's a line from a Scottish ballad (Robert Jamieson, 1806):
"Her flouchtrous heart near brast wi' teen."
To Flochter means to flutter about, to fliter. The next line of the ballad is this:
Her limbs fordweblit grew.
Yeah, you don't want your limbs growing fordweblit. If they do, seek medical help. (It means enfeebled and very weak.)
