CALLIFUDGE

(Yorkshire, 19th century)

Callifudge meant to cheat, deceive, cajole, flatter:

"Thah can't calli-fugle me, does ta see."

"What are you califudging at?"

It also meant Nonsense, humbug:

"Ther's a gooid deeal o' califudge i' th' world"

"That tale's nowt but cali-fudge"

Now all I can think of is the Simple Minds song, Don't You (Forget About Me):

"hey, hey, hey, hey ... Don't you Callifudge me."
