AFFLUFE, AFF LOOF
Offhand, from memory, off the cuff
Lovely Scottish word, Afflufe. The Poet Allan Ramsay used it magnificently:
"How snackly could he gi'e a fool reproof, E'en wi' a canty tale he'd tell aff loof."
Big shout out for snackly, which means nimbly. And bonus points for canty (cheerful, pleasant).
Burns, of course, was all over afflufe, and used it in Epistle to John Lapraik:
"I shall scribble down some blether just clean aff-loof."
