ABLINS (Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England.)
18th and 19th century word meaning Possibly, Perhaps.
Walter Scott was fond of his Ablins. He used the word in Guy Mannering in 1815, then two years later in Rob Roy (a gey bit = a good bit):
Kippletringan was distant at first 'a gey bit'; then the 'gey bit' was more accurately described as 'ablins three mile'.
She may aiblins hae been his honour's Squire Thorncliff's in her day
You'll give me a tweet, Ablins?
